Why Strength & Conditioning Is the Backbone of Modern Rugby

Modern rugby is more physical than ever. Speed, endurance, strength, and recovery all play critical roles in player performance — and that’s where strength and conditioning (S&C) steps in.

Under the expert direction of our S&C coach, Michelle Rawlings, our players go through personalized fitness programs tailored to their positions and individual goals. From explosive power training for forwards to agility-focused drills for backs, every athlete is conditioned to meet the demands of high-level play.

But it’s not just about lifting weights. Injury prevention, mobility, hydration, and recovery techniques like cold baths and stretching routines are equally important. Michelle also works closely with our nutrition and recovery specialist, Tania McGrath, to ensure players fuel and refuel correctly.

By investing in S&C, we’re not only improving performance — we’re prolonging careers and keeping players on the field, where they belong.
